In a Story Circle, people come together to explore a common theme in a spirit of equity and belonging. It becomes a way to build bridges, celebrate cultures and strengthen communities.

As each person takes a turn and shares a unique lived experience and perspective on the theme, a larger, richer and more complex story emerges. The things that our stories have in common – as well as real differences – are brought to light.

A Story Circle is like a kaleidoscope of human experience – what's reflected back to us is illuminating and ever-changing, with multiple dimensions, twists and turns.

Stories matter now more than ever.
STORYSCOPE MANIFESTO

The U.S. Department of Arts and Culture suggests that sharing stories matters more now than ever. Our stories allow us to ask:

-
Who are we?
-
What touches our hearts and minds?
-
What do our communities need?
-
What do they need to hear from us?

Storyscope is an invitation to respect the traditions of oral sharing through telling and listening. We can share stories of challenges and struggles, hope and optimism, funny stories and sad ones, angry stories and tales of longing. We can share moments of pride or shame. We can share moments of truth. We can listen deeply to the experience of fellow community members, and they can listen to our stories. By doing these things, we can come to know each other. In a Storyscope Story Circle, every voice counts and every ear listens.
