What To Expect At The Story Circle

-
Please arrive a few minutes early to sign in (and ask any questions you may have).
-
When the event begins, we’ll gather as one group for opening remarks and a brief performance related to the theme, “What does Home mean to you?”
-
Then we’ll break out into Story Circles of 6-10 people, each with a facilitator. Everyone will take a turn sharing a story (about 3 minutes each) related to the theme.
-
When all the circles are finished, we’ll reconvene as one group to reflect on what was said and heard in the Story Circles, and enjoy a closing performance.

Preparing & Sharing Your Story

-
Craft a story – with a beginning, middle, and end – about something you have experienced or observed related to the theme. You’ll be sharing your story in a small, friendly group in a spirit of belonging, not performing on a stage for an audience or debating a political issue.
-
No need to memorize, you can improvise. You may want to bring a 3 x 5 card with a few bullet points you don’t want to forget, but the idea is to speak extemporaneously rather than recite a script.
We look forward to seeing you and hearing your story!
STORY CIRCLE TIPS & PROMPTS
No storytelling experience required
Stories matter now more than ever.
A Story Circle is like a kaleidoscope of human experience – what's reflected back to us is illuminating and ever-changing, with multiple dimensions, twists and turns.
As each person takes a turn and shares a unique lived experience and perspective on the theme, a larger, richer and more complex story emerges. The things that our stories have in common – as well as real differences – are brought to light.
PROMPTS FOR THE THEME 'WHAT DOES HOME MEAN TO YOU?'

Here are a few prompts to consider as you develop your story. You might prefer to come up with one of your own.

-
Share a story about a significant life event that happened at “home” – in a certain house, or in a certain neighborhood/city/state/nation.
-
Tell us about a journey to a new home, back home, searching for home, or leaving home.
-
See where a starter phrase takes you: “I want to go home again because…” “I finally feel at home because…” “I’d feel at home anywhere if…” “I wish I felt at home in Arizona, but…”
If you’re stuck, get in touch. Storyscope can help!
You might enjoy practicing out loud before you arrive. It’s a great way to get comfortable with the flow of your story and warm up your vocal chords.
Please note: Storyscope may take photos and/or video of the event to post on our website for educational purposes. We’ll ask for your permission to do so when you sign in. Also, if you have a special need such as a hearing impairment, please let us know when you arrive.
